About
Stephen is a litigation associate with experience in both state and federal court. His practice includes a broad spectrum of defending complex civil litigation claims, with a particular focus on products liability and professional liability cases.
Stephen has represented clients against claims of alleged product defect, negligence, and related claims, as well as consumer fraud claims, involving a variety of products including medical devices and food products. He also defends professionals in malpractice and disciplinary actions, which have included cases involving the representation of lawyers, veterinarians, accountants, and realtors. As part of this practice, he represents lawyers in disciplinary proceedings resulting from allegations of professional misconduct and violations of the Rules of Professional Conduct.
He also regularly represents clients in premise liability, intellectual property, personal injury, business tort, and construction litigation. In addition, Stephen has represented employers in employment litigation claims such as discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, and other human rights claims.
Stephen is a dedicated client advocate both in and outside the courtroom and has successfully defended his clients, resolving many cases through dispositive motions, mediation, and settlement conferences. He has argued winning dispositive motions in both state and federal court. In addition, Stephen has experience briefing appeals and motions before appellate courts at both the state and federal level. In an exemplar case from the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, Stephen briefed an argument resulting in the clarification of the District of Columbia Superior Court’s Administrative Order tolling statutes of limitations in civil cases due to the COVID-19 emergency.
A graduate from the University of South Carolina School of Law, Stephen was a member of the Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Journal published by the American Bar Association and served as its Production Editor and Student Editorial Staff Member.
