Kevin Murphy contributed to an article published by the Journal of Accountancy in its November edition of the Professional Liability Spotlight publication. Entitled “The Dangers of Dabbling”, the authors of the article interviewed three attorneys who have substantial experience in the defense of accountants, including Kevin. The authors included in the article some selected excerpts from those interviews. The topic was a discussion of the professional standards that require competence, and in particular the standards as they relate to subject-matter experience and knowledge. It described the liability concerns, and suggested practical ways for accounting firms to improve compliance with competency standards.
